Propellerheads Reason

My current version is 7, and I will likely keep upgrading into eternity, because I really like that program. I do all my producing and most of my composing in Reason. I also have 19 rack extension and dozens of refills available. Maybe I’ll make a complete list if there’s popular demand.

Hardware

Kurzweil PC3x synthesizer workstation

Absolutely indispensable tool. I do some quick mockups of ideas to store them for later development. Now that Reason has MIDI-out, I also use the PC3x to record its amazing orchestral sounds – I especially love the variety of lush strings.

Roland JX-10 (Super JX)

A little underused in my hands, honestly, because I find it so much easier to program software synths. Still, it’s a lovable box of analog goodness, if really clunky to use..

M-Audio Axiom Pro 49

I like the keyboard on this MIDI-plank, but everything else is passable at best. Faders and rotaries are a bit wonky and the driver support appalling. No real support for the current Reason version, let alone rack extensions.

Roland Quad-Capture USB sound card

Feature set to suit my needs and excellent driver support, I think I could recommend this for a home studio. Just make sure the feature set suits YOUR needs.

AKG Perception 220 condenser mic

An affordable large diaphragm mic, that gets the job done. Pretty much comparable to the Rode NT-1, which is maybe familiar to more people.

Shure SM 58

Need I describe this?!

Roland TD-11 electric drums

I honestly got these just for fun. Got to play them at an expo and decided I need an e-kit in my life. In addition to fun, they have actually been useful in doing my drum parts, as I can send the MIDI-data to Reason’s sequencer.

Ibanez Art120 guitar

I’m not really 100% sure about the model, but I’m also not too fussed about it. I only use the guitar approximately 4 times per year, so.. move along.

Yamaha HS50 monitors

I can’t really compare the sound quality, because this is my first pair of proper monitors. Maybe a bit tame on the bass side? I just wanted them for the white cones, okay?!

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones

Pretty good pair of headphones, and by pretty good I mean can be worn for hours without physical strain.
